{"id":2023,"date":"2020-11-19T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/underlabs.ca\/apposphere\/?p=2023"},"modified":"2021-06-22T19:25:12","modified_gmt":"2021-06-22T23:25:12","slug":"apple-reduces-app-store-fees-by-half","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/underlabs.ca\/apposphere\/new_enterprise\/apple-reduces-app-store-fees-by-half\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple reduces App Store fees by half"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Apple will lower the fees it charges for software developers from 30% to 15% if the developer made less than $1 million in the previous year from In-App-Purchases (IAP) and Paid Apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple today announced the introduction of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/newsroom\/2020\/11\/apple-announces-app-store-small-business-program\/\">App Store Small Business Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective January 1, 2021, all developers earning less than $1 million from the App Store will pay 15 percent in commission to Apple, down from the usual 30 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is great news for small business owners and independent developers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple says, Developers can have their eligibility for the Small Business App Store reassessed on an annual basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of November 2020, there are 1.8 million apps on the (Apple) App Store, reaching more than 1.5 billion Apple users in 175 countries worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the App Store facilitated $519 billion in global trade, with more than 85 per cent of that total coming from third-party developers alone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple only orders less than 15 per cent of apps that sell digital goods and services either through <strong>in-app purchases<\/strong> or through <strong>paid application<\/strong> downloads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple&#8217;s App Store fees have increasingly come under scrutiny as legislators and regulators have overturned Apple&#8217;s dominance over iOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Like the Google suit already sparking more innovation, chalk this one up to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidcicilline?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@davidcicilline<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimSweeneyEpic?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TimSweeneyEpic<\/a>.
